Rigging Up a Sprayer in Back of Utv

CraKaLaCKiN

I need a cheap sprayer to get my fall plots ready. I'm in the market for a tractor this fall but I'm not ready to invest in a NICE 3pt sprayer just yet.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced pull behind sprayer that I can hook to my Polaris Ranger? OR even one that will fit in the bed of my Polaris would be cool too!

I bought a 15 gallon sprayer from Tractor Supply for around $100.00.

It fits in the back of a Yamaha Rhino and I am very please with it.

A old timey 3 gallon pump, back pack sprayer goes quite a ways. ATV models , look for a pump that delivers 4O+ PSI with you pumping that handler like heck on a backpack. also get out your spectacles and llok at the tiny prmy at the tip end of the spray nozzle . They are NOT trying to hide anything from you , it is just a fact that the tip is small. SS 45 FF means it is stainless steal and can stand up to 2,4 D and Paraquat and Roundup. 45 means the angle it spays rather uniformly . Some old sprayers do a whorl nozzle for insects , but that is another discussion. Round up at 20 gallons per acre and 45 degree Flat fan means you got to be moving right along between the rows; can't tarry, gotta git up and keep on getting up. Faster than a fully charged wheale chair will take off and go.

I was curious about the same topic for rigging up a sprayer in the bed of my ranger. They make several models, booms and boomless, for direct setup onto atvs. There was a post on here a while back about a boomless spray nozzle that simply connected directly to a spot sprayer hose and could be mounted on an atv. It was called the Black Rain, and several people were interested, but I never did hear much else about how people liked it.

Anyone have a nice setup on their atv/utv that they would recommend??

I bought a 26 gallon from northern tool for 189 boo less and spot sprayer 2 year warranty

I've got a 25 gallon boomed sprayer from Fimco http://www.fimcoindustries.com/atv.html It's going on it's 7th year right now and I just had to replace the pump on it. Cost me $100 for the pump and manifolds.

I'm happy with it and decided to go with the boomed sprayer because most of our leased property is on Timber company land and the boomed unit keeps the chemicals lower to the ground. I'm sure it would easily fit in the back of your Ranger and the benefit there, is if you do get a tractor, it free's it up to do other things.

I think mine was in the $400 range

I wouldn't buy a sprayer that small that wasn't a fimco

Wild Turkey

I built one myself to ride in back of ezgo golf cart.
30 gal poly tank from place up the road.
12v sureflow pump.
little tubing, and a wand.
also have spray heads on a pole for wide spray.

I can wand or boom spray at same time. Wand for those that need a little extra juice.
ill take photos tonight, i might have 150 in it all.

I echo the Fimco 25 gallon tank. With a little imagination you can rig it to ride an ATV, in the bed of a Gator or mounted on a carrier on your 3 point hitch on your tractor.

All i suggest is that you provide a flat stout base underneath the tank. 25 lbs of water sloshing and bouncing around will place a great deal of strain on the tank. Mount it properly and Give it proper TLC and it will last a long time.

Yes, that is a good suggestion! I built a 2 x 6 base that nestled into my steel tubed rack.

With the way warranties are these days you can by two North Star sprayers for the price of that one and still have money left to add on to the warranties that you can upgrade to 4 years for a total of 6 years of coverage. They have a zero send out fix. it breaks take it back swap it out in the store no questions ask and no send off for repair

I have had great service out od the NHnorthern sprayers, i prefer the boomless due to the tight areas I operate in and i spray a lot of our trails where a boom would be worthless. I use mine on a 4 wheeler and our plots are only 1-2 acres so this works well for our application.

Alot of good info here. I was thinking of doing something similar. Buying a 25-30 gal spot sprayer and building a metal skid for which to support it and mount it into the ranger. I was thinking about going boomless, so the skid could also be used to mount a nozzle or series of nozzles. Seems like it would be pretty easy to built and would get the job done. I need to do some research on the boomless nozzles and find out what I need.

I have since modified the spray heads to be lower to the ground to prevent drift.I can spot spray or field spray just by moving to valves. I can adjust pressure, droplet size by adjusting the field tip cutoff and the return agitator valve.

The basic sprayer rig is a tank, a pump that can deliver 40+ PSI made out of materials that withstand corrosive/abraisive products. Adjustable regulator so you get tractor speed/volume per acre is sync. Lastly, nozzles. Nozzles might have tiny orifices that can clog so they have little strainers built just above that can also partially clog some and not deliver as much volume as you need at a given nozzle. Normally these are several and attached to a boom. SS outlast brass. I have one broadcast nozzle that covers thirty feet uniformly. It handles tank mix of fertilizer and WP herbicide, even land plaster Its a big ss nozzle so it doesn't stop up. If it does you know it immediately. Nothing wrong with having many different kinds of set ups. A single small nozzle on a 50 hose is also handy to have for hard to get to places or spot spraying.

I bought the single ss broadcast nozzle from a machine shop in Millen GA about 30 Years ago and still good as new. It even does a good job of broadcast burndown herbicides. Gets good leaf coverage stepped up to 30-40 gal water per acre. Lots of water filling I know but there are advantages and disadvantages in everything. A bunch of options to fit your varying needs is best. Don't shop for just one type.

For what it's worth, Northern Tool has their sprayers on sale and I have a $50 off coupon, for purchases over $250. Just pm me with your address and I will be happy to mail it out.
